What is Fluoride?

Most people have heard of fluoride because it is added to a majority of municipal water sources in the country. This is because of the mineral’s ability to strengthen the tooth enamel, which is the outermost protective layer of teeth. This naturally occurring mineral is derived from rocks and found all throughout nature, in the fresh fruits and vegetables we eat to the garden soil that they are grown in, and even the air we breathe!

However, fluoride treatment in Leesburg may be recommended for your child if we spot signs of weakened enamel at their checkup. As many children receive sufficient fluoride through their tap water, mouthwash or toothpaste, our recommendation for additional and concentrated fluoride will help to protect your little one's teeth from the threat of cavities.

How Does Fluoride Treatment Work?

Fluoride treatment is fast, 100% pain-less, and a great way to finish off your child’s routine dental cleaning. At the very end of their appointment, after your child’s teeth have been cleaned, one of our Agents may recommend a quick and easy fluoride treatment. If you have any questions or concerns beforehand, please know that we are more than happy to answer and address any concerns you may have to feel comfortable moving forward with the treatment. Once you provide consent, our team will simply apply fluoride on your child’s teeth.

For optimal effect, we encourage patients to avoid hot, hard, sticky and chewy foods for at least 30 minutes. Waiting will allow enough time for the fluoride be absorbed by the dental enamel.
